Cameron James is an award winning comedian, actor, writer and podcast guy.
With his laid back demeanour, instinctive improvisation style and seamless crowd work, Cameron has gained a reputation as one of the must-see performers on the comedy circuit today.
When it comes to podcasts, Cameron is best known as the co-host and co-creator of the ABC’s investigative mystery podcast, Finding Drago, with Alexei Toliopoulos. A comedy spin on the true crime genre, Finding Drago was nominated at the 2019 Australian Podcast award for Best TV, Film & Pop Culture Podcast, and has been described by The Australian as “tremendously bonkers” and by The AV Club as “brilliantly silly”. It’s found Cameron a cult fanbase in the UK, the US and even Sweden and South America.
You can also hear Cameron and Alexei on their weekly film podcast Total Reboot, or tune into Cameron and comedian Becky Lucas for their iTunes chart-topping podcast series, The Becky and Cam Hotline.
Cameron’s comedy career began when he was named national runner-up at the 2012 Triple J Raw Comedy Competition held at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Since then, he has toured many times across the Australian comedy festival circuit and even featured as a writer and performer with SBS’s The Feed and ABC’s Win the Week and Gruen.
In 2022, Cameron embarked on a national tour with his hilarious show, Electric Dreams. It tells the story of Cameron’s teenage years when he dreamt of becoming a famous rockstar and features performances of the cringe-inducing songs he wrote growing up in his family home.
The hysterically awkward show filled with “sweaty waves of noughties nostalgia”, was met with critical acclaim and saw Cameron take home the 2022 Sydney Comedy Festival’s Directors Choice Award and receive a nomination for Most Outstanding Show at the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Currently, Cameron and Alexei are working with Screen Australia and the Aunty Donna team at Haven’t You Done Well Productions, to create the third instalment of the Finding series. Finding Yeezus will be released on YouTube channel, Grouse House, in late 2022.
